Liberia
As a kid I grew up in Liberia,West Africa. This was before the civil wars of the last few decades. It was a great place to grow up,the first year was spent on a rubber plantation in Bassa County. We were literally living in the bush,no TV or radio. We made our own entertainment.
The next 5 years we moved to a major iron ore mine in Bong County. Bong Town was more of a small mixed European/African community with all the “mod cons” of a small town. I have very fond memories of Bong Town as a teenager. Check out this site. You might even see me on there somewhere!.
Liberia was truly a great place to grow up and the Liberian people in general were always so welcoming and with a great sense of fun. Our family left just before the first uprising, so we never saw anything of the atrocities that went on afterwards. I really do hope Liberia has a peaceful future.
