A little about me

My name is Dan Ranger, hence the name above the door I lived all over the world as a kid. From Germany to Liberia and on to Eire and Egypt. This has given me a very broad outlook on our little planet. From the disciplined Germans to the friendly Liberians, onto the hospitable Irish and Egyptians. I had a blast in all these places especially Liberia.

I now live in the south of England with my wife Jo ,living back where I started.I have two adorable kids from a previous “life”, and most importantly I like my music. The hard n’ heavy stuff.

I started playing guitar in the early 1980’s when men where men and looked like girls, and the girls?….well, not far behind. I grew up listening to all kinds of music, but the hard and heavy stuff hit a chord, so to speak. From Bachman Turner Overdrive, Sabbath, Judas Priest to Chic and Skynyrd. I love it all. I don’t give a fuck about fashion or musical trends. If I like it and it has has a groove I am good to go.

During the 1980’s I was in a band with my brother  Stuart (bass). A Power Metal band named “Taor”. We gigged the south coast of Blighty for a few years and recorded 2 demo tapes. Then Stuart defected to Deathwish and I to…..

Hydra Vein

Hydra Vein was a Thrash Metal band formed by Damon and Nathan Maddison during the late 1980’s.They released two critically acclaimed albums,Rather Death Than False of Faith and After the Dream.

I was lucky enough to be part of the Rather Death.. album before leaving the band during 1989.Hydra Vein was probably the best thing I have ever been involved in…..a proper Metal band!!.

It was a great shame we did not have the resources to make it “big”.God knows the songs were cracking!.

The albums are due for re-release on cd in 2007.   Update now on iTunes
